(AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE 1979

The principal purpose of this Ordinance is to add to the Shipping and Port Control Ordinance 1978 a new penal provision under which any person (including the master, crew or any passenger of a vessel) who, without reasonable excuse, disables, abandons, scuttles or beaches any vessel within Hong Kong waters commits an offence for which he may be fined up to $200,000 and sent to prison for up to 4 years if he is convicted on indictment or for up to 2 years if he is convicted summarily.

Section 3 introduces a new section 72A to provide
accordingly.
3. Section 2 increases to the same level the maximum penalties under section 72 of the principal Ordinance for the offence of endangering the safety of persons on a vessel.
4. Before the Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, I advised that he could properly do so.
