On 8th July 1975, having considered memorandum XCC(75)40, the Council advised and the Governor ordered that approval should be given, under regulation 10 of the Ferries Regulations (Chapter 104, subsidiary legislation), for the Chief Secretary to grant a licence to the Eastern Ferry Company for the exclusive right to maintain a passenger ferry service between Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau for a period of four years on the terms and conditions set out in the draft licence attached to the memorandum.

The Company has now applied for an extension of the licence, which expires on 31st August 1979, for a further period of 16 months. An extension may be granted under Regulation 4(a) of the Ferries Regulations, which states that the Governor in Council may, for such reasons as are considered sufficient, at any time during the subsistance of any licence extend such licence for a period not exceeding six years at any one time.
Performance by the Eastern Ferry Company

Apart from the three years 1969 - 72, when another operator was granted the licence, the Eastern Ferry Company has operated this service for the past 22 years and has discharged its obligations under the terms of the licence to the satisfaction of the Director of Marine and the Commissioner for Transport.
