LETTER FROM MRS ELLIOTT:

SAI LAU KOK
I enclose a letter to the Secretary of State in which Mrs Elsie Elliott alleges discrepancies between the actual compensation offered to certain flat-owners at Sai Lau Kok and the average rates of compensation referred to by the Minister of State in the House of Commons on 26 July. I attach an extract from the Official Report for your reference.
2. The replies which we had drafted for the Minister were based on information in Hong Kong telegram No 1051 of 24 July. We appreciate that the details you then gave were necessarily based on average rates of compensation and that each property had been valued according to floor area, storage and other facilities and location. However we should be grateful for your early comments on the points now raised by Mrs Elliott.
3.
We understand from various press references that an Urban Councillor, Mr Augustine Chung, has presented to the Governor a report on the clearances at Sai Lau Kok. When you have had time to consider it, we should be grateful for your comments on this report.
