The negotiations for the through train service
have been going well. successfully today.

The first trial run took place
We were originally planning for a target date of 9 April for the first service However, the Governor thinks it would be a good idea for him to return from Canton at the end of his visit to China on the first service. We are therefore going flat out to see if the service can start on 4 April. The NCNA share the view that this would be a good idea and have promised to do everything possible to help. Our railway people are due to go to Canton for a final meeting on Monday, returning on Tuesday evening or Wednesday. We shall know then if the 4 April date is possible. I will send a telegram with the results.
