1. In his minute of 17 August below, Mr Wall asks about public- ations and announcements likely to generate public interest before the end of the Parliamentary recess.
2. We still await the Chinese response to our proposals for extending land leases in the New Territories. But assuming there is no Chinese objection, the Governor is planning to announce the new arrangements in his speech at the opening of the new Legislative Council session in early October. This is certain to attract considerable attention in Hong Kong, which will probably be reflected in the British press.
3.
I do not think there are any other announcements or public- ations originating in HKGD that would merit inclusion in Mr Wall's list.
