leader Mrs. Margaret Thatcher and her insistence or get defences against
Russia that she has been called the "Iron Lady" by the
& authorivies.
The Conservative Farty's foreign policy is more ponu tan that of the
Labour Party. This is another reason for the Tories' inny (in the general
election).
Government elected by the majority may be stable
According to statistics, the parliamentary seats gained by different
parties in the election are as follows: Conservatives (329); Labour (268);
Liberals (11); Scottish Nationalists (2); Welsh Nationalists (2) and others (13).
It shows that the Conservatives have 43 seats more than the total seats gained
by other parties in the House of Commons. Because of this majority of 43 seats,
the Conservative Government would not have the same difficulties as the ex-
Labour Government, which when faced with big problems could not even depend on
the support of its own members. The former Labour Government was defeated by
one vote during the "no-confidence" motion in parliament. Now, since the
Conservative Party has gained a majority vote, the Conservative Government
led by Mrs. Thatcher will certainly be a more stable one. It is anticipated
that the cabinet of the 'Iron Lady' will administer its government programmes
more smoothly in the next five years.
Difficulty ahead with the Labour Union
Of course,
it does not mean that the Government of the 'Iron Lady'
is "iron-made" and would not encounter any problems. It also faces many
difficulties.
