Question:
The UK Nationality Act 1977 which is due for review shortly has
caused a lot of concern here. It has turned Hong Kong citizens
into second class citizens. What are your views on that ?
Mr Blaker: I think the questioner is referring to the Green Paper that was
produced in 1977 by the previous government. It is the intention
of this government as it was the intention of the last one to
introduce a new nationality bill. And that is now being discussed.
Consideration is being given within the government to what should
be in the Bill and the interest and position of Hong Kong are
certainly not going to be neglected in the preparation of the
Bill.
