NEW INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY
8. The next major North/South argument will be over the International
Development Strategy for the 1980s and beyond (due to be adopted by a
special session of the UN General Assembly in 1980). The LDCs will want
specific targets for economic and social sectors and by implication
concessions from the developed countries in pursuit of the NIEO. We shalL
emphasise the need for flexibility and the shared responsibilities of both
developed and developing countries.
