The existing road between Sheung Shui and the border at Man Kam To Bridge is an average 6 metres (191⁄2 feet) wide and is of very light construction (2 inches bituminous surface on 4 inches of stone base), although the bridges along the route, including the Border Bridge itself, are capable of taking all normal highway loadings. there has been a large increase in construction traffic entering and leaving the Closed Area, engaged in the hauling
