Sha Tau Kok to open for factories

Hong Kong workers able to go to work by coaches

for development

Sha Tau Kok Town in Shum Chun is to open its doors.

Businessmen setting up factories in the town on the basis of co-operation and "compensation deals" may employ skilled workers from Hong Kong who will be able to travel freely to and from their work places. No restrictions will be imposed on time for workers to cross the border. Moreover, employers may operate bus services to take workers to and from work. By so doing, it is more manageable than setting up factories in other areas.

This was disclosed by the people in charge of Sha Tau Kok Town, Mr. Lee Yuen-yip and Mr. Cheung Yun-tim, during an interview

with a staff reporter.

Mr. Cheung and Mr. Lee said Sha Tau Kok Town would

come under the jurisdiction of the Shum Chun municipal authorities. In view of its proximity to the New Territories the two places being separated by a bitumen road - residents may travel between the two places freely without any restrictions, resulting in the establishment of closer relations among them.

Since measures were taken to encourage investment and the setting up of factories on the basis of co-operation and "compensation deals", many businessmen from Hong Kong, Macau and overseas have enquired about conditions for investment and setting up of factories in Sha Tau Kok. Discussions have taken place with businessmen dealing in electronics, silk, plastics, leather goods and gloves. At present, finishing work for plastic products and textile goods has been carried out in Sha Tau Kok Town for Hong Kong businessmen. It is more convenient to open a factory in Sha Tau

Kok than other areas.
