A new development plan for Shum Chun, which is close to Hong Kong, has been announced. Responsible officials at Shum Chun disclosed yesterday that a new town will be built west of the railway line in the next few years (up to 1982). The new town will comprise a one-million-sq-meter industrial estate and a pier, at Nam Tau, capable of holding containers of up to 50,000
tons.
Aside from this, a holiday resort, similar to the summer resort at Tien Hu in Tung Fai County will be built to attract 5,000 to 10,000 visitors daily from Hong Kong. The tourist spot will comprise a hotel, a horse-riding park, fishing ponds, bathing beach, a community centre, a children's amusement park, a swimming pool and an orchard. The officials said they welcome investments from overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau residents as well as people of other countries.
The above promising piece of information was conveyed to a group of Hong Kong residents from Po On County and some interested industrialists by the responsible officials at Shum Chun. They were invited to attend a "seminar and to contribute ideas towards the development of their home county. The seminar began at Shum Chun at 3 p.m. yesterday and will
last three days.
The responsible officials at Shum Chun taking part in the seminar were Chang Fan-po, Lee Ting and Li Kwong-chun.
