NIKAL MAN TO

NOTES ON ANNEX A

that

(1) The maximun demand is expressed in megavatto

(mw). In examining the figures for maximum

demand, two points should be taken into

account:

(a) Generating capacity must always exceed

maximum demand by about 30%, as there

must be standby capacity to cover

routine maintenance and the possibility

of generator failure.

(b) The maximum demand is normally reached

for only a comparatively short time daily

during the peak months of July, August

and September. In the case of CLP

(the biggest company), for example, the

load factor (i.e. utilisation of plant)

is therefore expected to remain at a

figure of only 50 - 60% in the

foreseeable future.

(2) Both companies consider that the very high

growth rate experienced in 1977 and in 1978

(approximately 13%) will drop in future

years from a figure of 11% in 1979 to less

than 8% in 1992.
