After the usual courtesies Mr Wu referred to the beginning of the through train service from Guangzhou to Hong Kong starting the following week. This was worthy of celebration. The Governor said that he would be travelling on the first train which was indeed a great event. He understood that the arrangements had been made after only four hours of discussion. Mr Wu said that the idea of a through train had been discussed for a long time but finally unanimous agreement had been reached. At the moment there would only be a through train for passengers. He hoped that it would soon be possible to discuss through freight trains.
