SINO-BRITISH RELATIONS

Royal Visits

13.

The Duke of Kent will visit China from 4-12 June, to open

the British Energy Exhibition.

He will spend 3-9 June in

Peking, before visiting Shanghai and Hangzhou.

which the Chinese have issued to Princess Margaret.

Visit by Premier Hua Guofeng

The Prime Minister has agreed to receive Premier Hua

Guofeng for an official visit from 30 October to 3 November, as proposed by the Chinese, after visits to France and West Germany.

Premier Hua will arrive on 29 October and leave on 5 November.

We understand that the Chinese do not want any further publicity

given to the visit at this tage.

Other Visits

15.

Other important forthcoming Chinese visitors to Britain include a brief weekend stop in London by Vice Premier Geng Biao, 9-11 June, and further visits by the Minister of Sport, 21-28 June; Politburo Member Zhao Ziyuan, 10-17 June (at the head of a delegation from the province of Sichuan); and, probably, the Chinese Deputy Chief of General Staff, Yang Yong, in early July. Arrangements are in hand for all these visitors to be received by Government Ministers as appropriate (except for Vice Premier Geng Biao, who wishes his visit to be an entirely private one).
