RESIDENTIAL WING
INSTITUTE OF DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
Study Fellows will find it useful to note the following points:
(a) Soap and towels are provided.
(b) It will be much appreciated if Study Fellows will make their beds on Saturdays and
Sundays as domestic staff are not on duty on those days.
(c) On arrival Study Fellows are given a bedroom key and a North Door key and are
asked to return them to the porter's desk on the day of departure.
(d) All the bedrooms have shaving points.
(e) Meals are not provided at the Institute during weekends, apart from Breakfast.
(f) Study Fellows are asked to vacate their room by 09.00 on the day of departure
to allow the domestic staff time to prepare for the incoming conference. Luggage can be left in the hall until later in the day.
CARS
(a) It will be helpful if car owners will give the registration numbers of their cars
to their Conference organiser on arrival, so that they can be contacted if necessary.

Parking is not permitted on roads or within the residential area in the University site and it would be appreciated if Study Fellows would co-operate in observing this rule.
POSTAL ARRANGEMENTS
(a) In order to avoid delay to Study Fellows' correspondence, letters should be
addressed to them at the Institute as follows:

(b) A pigeon hole next to the Seminar Room is allocated to each Study Fellow for
letters and messages.
(c) The University Post Office is in Sussex House (see map) and is open Mondays to Fridays
10.00 - 17.30. Letters can be posted in the Institute itself.
TELEPHONE CALLS
The Institute telephone number is Brighton 606261.
(a) Outgoing calls can be made from coin boxes in the Institute (on each floor). (b) Incoming calls: as Study Fellows may be dispersed throughout the Institute it is
difficult for outside callers to contact them. If it is important for a Study Fellow to be contacted it is best to make a prior arrangement through one of the call boxes.

(a) The Institute does not accept liability for loss or damage to Study Fellows'
belongings and they may wish to check that they have insurance cover.
(b) As there are no covered walkways between buildings, Study Fellows are advised
to bring raincoats or umbrellas.
(c) Enquiries and requests are best made to the Conference organiser.
OTHER FACILITIES
There are two banks which operate normal banking hours, and also a Post Office, University bookshop, supermarket, greengrocer, newsagent and confectioner, travel agent and launderette. SPORTS The entire range of the University sports facilities, including the use of the Sports- centre, squash courts, tennis courts etc., can be made available to Study Fellows on payment of a temporary membership fec, if special arrangements have been made by Conference organisers in advance. Study Fellows wishing to use these facilities should consult their Conference organiser.
ART EXHIBITIONS, THEATRE etc.. The Gardener Centre for the Arts is open daily (Sundays excepted) and details of future programmes and exhibitions are obtainable in the main foyer.
