We are in no doubt about our sovereignty (150 years of British admin-

istration). The population are all of British origin. The Islanders do not want independence but retention of links with Britain.

Their wishes

must be respected. Some Commonwealth countries do not support our deter-

mination to take account of Islander wishes. In 1976 UNGA pro-Argentine

Resolution on Falklands was adopted by 102-1 (UK) with 36 abstentions

(including EEC). Commonwealth countries voting with Argentina: Bangladesh, Cyprus, Ghana, India, Lesotho, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Sri Lanka,

Swaziland, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia.
