1. I should be grateful if you would arrange for the preparation of an up-to-date job description of the post of Governor of the Falkland Islands. This will form part of the briefs which will be distributed to members of the Dependent Territories Senior Appointments Board for its forthcoming meeting. One of the items on the Board's agenda will be the selection of a successor to Mr Parker.

I attach a copy of the job description prepared for use in 1976. For the sake of uniformity with other job descriptions it would be helpful if the following headings could be used:

1. The Territory
(a) Background (Constitutional and Folitical Fosition
of the Territory)
(b) Resources Controlled by the Territory
(c) Security (Internal and External Problems)
2. The Governor
(a) Liscretion for Executive Lecision
(b) Involvement in the Judicial Process
(c) Special Qualities Required
It would be very helpful if I could have the new job des- cription not later than 2 April.
