LAURIE ROBERT LECHARD MacCULLOCH

Mr MacCulloch was born on 1 May 1925 in Durban, South Africa, of British parents. He is married and has two children.

He was educated at Kenton College, Kenya, and Prince of Wales School, Kenya.

From 1941 to 1946 he served with the King's African Rifles, finally as Acting Captain.

From 1946 to 1949 he served as a Temporary Administrative Officer in the Ministry of Labour, Kenya. From 1949 to 1964 he was employed as Assistant Labour Officer, Labour Officer and Senior (Provincial) Labour Officer in Kenya. He retired in 1965. From 1965 to 1968 he served on contract as Senior Labour Officer (Industrial Relations) in Malawi, and from 1968 to 1972 as Principal Personnel Officer in Fiji. In 1972 he became Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Malawi Government Labour Representative in Johannesburg.

He was appointed to Hong Kong in 1975 and is now an Administrative Officer on agreement terms.

Reports on Mr MacCulloch's service in Kenya, Malawi and Fiji are good. They described him as a keen and able officer of sound character and judgement, whose work is of a very high standard. He is said to have a distinct flair for industrial relations and to possess an all-round knowledge of Labour work. Reporting Officers have commented upon the high standard of his written work, especially as Secretary of the Wages Advisory Board and Wages Advisory Council in Malawi. He is said to have a lively disposition, to be a good conversationalist, and to be well liked by both African and European colleagues.

There are no reports on his more recent service as Malawi Labour Representative in South Africa or on his Hong Kong service.
