The following was supplied by hiss £ Falconer, &CD, and sets out the reasons why Mr McEntee should have his term of office extended:
HOW-
2. fr cintee has agreed to leave Belize on 31 December 1979 in anticipation of the new Belizean Government being formed by then (the General Election is due towards the end of November). ever, since the Election looks like being unusually close-run, he has offered to stay on until the end of January 1980 in the event of a tie or any other serious problem making the formation of a government difficult. He would hope to hand over a properly constituted, reasonably stable government to his successor, and in the event of local difficulties, accepting the opprobrium for any unpopular gubernatorial decisions and leaving his successor a clean slate to inherit. This flexibility in his retirement plans has been welcomed by ILCL.
