1. I spoke to Mr Duff and Mr Burns (Miss Hunt is on leave) asking whether they thought that the PUS should write to all Governors telling them of the proposal to wind up the DTSAB. They both thought that he should. Mr Burns considered that separate letters were unnecessary (although this was done in 1970) and suggested a circular letter to all OAGS or a letter to the Governor, Hong Kong, copied to the others. I tend to favour the former.
2.
Mr Duff particularly asked that we did not use the phrase "Diplomatic Service machinery" when mentioning how future appointments would be dealt with. He felt that it would make the hackles of HMOCS Governors rise!
