GOVERNOR, BELIZE

1.

We spoke about the extension of Mr McEntee's term of office.

2. Mr McEntee's three year term as Governor, Belize, came to an end on 3 June last. We had envisaged that, if the DTSAB recommend- ations went through as originally planned, there would be no problem about his extension being approved by the Secretary of State at the same time as the other Governorships. However, now that it has been decided to wait for the meeting of the No.1 Board (I understand from POD that this has been postponed several times but has now been fixed for 13 July), I think we had better deal with Mr McEntee separately. He himself is aware of the position but he will not be able to make a public announcement until he gets our official notification. Moreover, it would, I feel, be discourteous to the Palace to let it run on any further.

3. I attach a draft submission.
