Problem

+

1. To make arrangements to fill the post of Governor and

Commander-in-Chief, Belize, following the expiry of the present

Governor's three year term of office.

Recommendation

2. I recommend that the Secretary of State should approve the

recommendation of the Dependent Territories Senior Appointments

Board (DTSAB) that the appointment of the present Governor,

Mr P D McEntee CMG OBE, should be extended for about six months,

and that the Private Secretary should then write to the Private

Secretary to Her Majesty on the lines of the attached draft,

seeking The Queen's approval to the extension.

Background

3. At their meeting on 4 June the DTSAB agreed on a number of

recommendations concerning the Governorships of Dependent

Territories. The submission of the bulk of these recommendations

is being delayed until after the No 1 Selection Board has considered

proposals for the promotion of two of the Diplomatic Service

officers involved. The No 1 Selection Board are due to hold their

next meeting on 13 July.

4.

However, the extension of Mr McEntees appointment needs to

be dealt with now, since his term of office expired at the end
