To obtain Her Majesty's informal approval of the following
appointments:-
(a) Mr JP I Hennessy CMIG OBE as Governor and Commander-
in-Chief of Belize, in succession to Mr P D McEntee CMG OBE;
(b) Mr D K H Dale CBE as Governor of Montserrat, in succession
to Mr C W Jones CBE.
Recommendation
2.
I recommend that the Private Secretary should write to the
Private Secretary to The Queen on the lines of the attached drafts.
Background
3. These appointments have been approved by the Secretary of
State (my submission of 10 July) and agreed by the Prime Minister
(Mr Cartledge's letter of 25 July). The officers concerned have
been consulted and would be willing to accept. They will need to
pass medical examinations before The Queen's form.l approval is
sought but there is no need for early public announcements.
4. The Secretary of State and the Prime Minister have also
approved the appointment of r R Hunt as Governor and Commander-
in- Chief of the Falkland Islands. However, Mr Ridley (currently
