P.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR: BERMUDA

1. We spoke about Mr Lloyd's extension of his term of office and I told you of my conversation with Mr Burns and Mr Beamish (Enc 54 and 55 of HKA 431/476/1 refer).

2. Mr beamish telephoned me today and said that he had spoken to the Chief Clerk and there was no problem about Mr Lloyd's name going through to the No.2 Board which is to be held on 9 October. The Chief Clerk did query with Mr Beamish whether the PUS had laid down the manner in which he wished appointments hitherto under the jurisdiction of the DTSAB to be handled in future. I quoted to Mr Beamish para.4 of the FUS's minute of 24 May 1979 to Sir P Preston and para.3 of his minute of 30 Play to the Secretary of State. Mr Beamish was content but said that it would be useful to have copies of these two papers (I see the latter went to the Chief Clerk).

3. You wished to minute Mr Beamish. He confirmed that he needed no further material from us on Mr Lloyd.
