INSPECTIONS OF DEPENDENT TERRITORIES

Please see the attached minute about an inspection of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
2. I have had another look at Mr Quantrill's circular of
2 August to see whether there are other Dependent Territories which ought now to be put into the future programme of inspections and I have discussed with HKGD (Mr Green).
3. There are four Posts on Mr Quantrill's distribution which are not yet in the programme British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, St Helena and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Montserrat and St Helena might perhaps be ignored for the present since there are no DS staff serving at them. (Except for a DS 9 Treasurer
at Tristan da Cunha and it would probably take months to inspect him!)

The BVI, however, are in the same position as the Turks and Caicos in that there too we have recently appointed a DS 4 Governor and an $2. It looks, therefore, as though we should think in terms of including both Posts in the programme - presumably in the same tour. There has been no complaint about allowances from the BVI Governor yet, but he has only been there for a few weeks.
