5. Finally, as regards the furniture and equipment of Government House, this is of course theoretically the respons- ibility of your local government. But we are fully aware of the difficulty of obtaining adequate funds from local budgets. Since you wrote, you will have received Robin McLaren's letter HKA 364/1 of 23 November, outlining a cumbersome but we hope workable arrangement for making extra funds available from British aid sources for the upkeep and maintenance of Government House and its contents. I hope that this will prove sufficient to resolve your problem over furniture.
