1. Many thanks for your helpful letter HKA 430/2 of 8 February.
have completed the Annual Expenses Form,, showing my expenses during my first six months in Grand Turk, but my main concern is, as you know, the unrealistic level of entertainment allowance.
2. In spite of my resolve to stop entertaining at the end of 978-November (my letter of 29 November), I found that considerable
expenditure in December was simply unavoidable. However, I more than halved the rate in January and February and have stopped entertaining altogether as from the beginning of March.
3. If it proves possible to increase the allowance, I should be glad if the sum provided for the QBP (traditionally about 300 guests) could be indicated.
Incidentally, the figure given in the local estimates for the Governor's entertainment allowance is US$2,724 (1,362) and that amount is paid by the Turks and Caicos Government to HMG: but I receive less than that amount (1,145). Res ipsa loquitur. 5. I am sorry to say that I was wrong when I said that the Chief Secretary had no entertainment allowance. I overlooked the entry of $250 per annum under Other Charges for "Official Hospit- ality". He can recover up to 125 a year! We hope to be able to put the figure up to $500 (250) for the next financial year beginning, 1 April 1979, but he is clearly in no position to share the main burden.
