GOVERNORS' TERMS OF SERVICE
1. In his letter to you of 13 September 1979 Bill Quantrill said that we would get in touch with you again when we had obtained information on the point you raised about insurance against death or injury during air travel.
2. We have now consulted the Pension Dept and Personal Service Executive of the Overseas Development Administration. I enclose for your information copies of the old circulars on the question of compensation for injury or death whilst travelling by air.
The principles indicated in the circulars remain the same. Should the question of compensation ever arise we would look to the provisions of the local pension legislation and would expect a Governor to be treated no more generously than a person killed or injured whilst travelling on duty by air under the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme. There is, of course, nothing to prevent a Governor insuring himself at his own expense.
I hope this gives you the information you require.
