On 3.10.78, the Association of Police Interpreters put forward the following proposals in addition and as alternatives to their original requests -

(a) through pay scale for the ranks of Police Interpreter

(b)

(c).

II and I;

creation of a junior rank to Police Interpreter II to undertake Report Room duties; and

retitling of the grade as Police Translator.

A review of the duties of the grade has been completed. The assignment report recommends, inter alia, the following

(a) functionalisation of Police Interpreter I/II;

(b) creation of more Police Interpreter I posts;

(c) upgrading a number of Police Interpreter II posts

to Police Interpreter I posts; and

(d) provision of advancement opportunity to the Chinese

Language Officer grade.

The Association was not satisfied with the above recommendations. On 16.10.78 they informed C.P. that they still stood firm on their full 'package' but would also consider any substantial offer the management might like to make and that if no reply came from the management by 25.10.78, the Association would take it that there was no offer at all.

C.P. replied to this letter on 25.10.78, as agreed with Civil

- Service Branch, saying -

(a) the official side are actively exploring the possibilities

of introducing functional posts of Police Interpreter I and additional posts of Senior Police Interpreter;

(b) consideration is being given to awarding two additional

increments to Matriculants in the Police Interpreter II rank;
