Thank you for your letter of 13 March asking

what action the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is taking regarding the pay and conditions of the Hong Kong Government Shorthand and Audio-Typists.

When the President and Vice-President of the

Shorthand and Audio-Typists' Association visited London in January they called on me and explained the background to their dispute with the Hong Kong Government over their terms of service. This is, of course, essentially a matter for the Hong Kong Government, but I assured the Association's representatives that I would do what I could to bring the dispute to a satisfactory conclusion. My officials remain in, correspondence with the Hong Kong Government over this question and I am hopeful that a solution acceptable to both sides, will be found.
