The Chairman said he was not in the moment disputing her speaking. He pointed out if they went on to discuss this point, they i could not go on to any proper problems. He then said they had accepted
copy of the verbatim minutes in their file and suggested the Staff Side to look at the draft minutes and let them know what they wanted to do.

Mrs. H. Cheung pointed out just before Mr. Kwok made a statment the Chairman did agree that both sides should sit together and to amend the verbatim minutes.

The Chairman said he was about to say something when Mr. Kwok' spoke. That was, both sides agreed to sit together to go through the minutes and certainly should have the minutes agreeable.

Mrs. M. Cheung said the Official Side refused to accept the verbatim minutes whilst the Staff Side refused to accept the summary minutes as the final version, therefore she suggested that it was necessary for both sides to sit together and discuss the verbatim minutes, in order to get a final and agreed minutes.

The Chairman said the two secretaries could sit together wband asked whether the Staff Side intended to do.

Mrs. M. Cheung hoped that representatives from the Official Side who could make decision on the minutes should be present because if the secretary who could not make decision, as the minutes so produced might not be acceptable to the other members of the Official Side.

The Chairman said he had nothing further to say.
They had spent 45 minutes on this subject and they had not got any further. They were quite happy for their secretary to discuss with the Staff Side's concerning the minutes.

Mrs. H. Cheung asked in other words, the Chairman meant that the Secretary from the Official Side would be able to make decision.

The Chairman said no. He would have to go back to him and show it to him as Chairman.

Mrs. H. Cheung hoped that a date and time could be arranged then for the meeting of secretaries. After further discussion, it was agreed that Hiss 30 Choi-lin and Miss LIU Kit-ping of the Staff Side and Mr. M. Runjahn of the Official Side should discuss the draft minutes of the 20th June 1977, 29th June 1977 and 7th July 1977 and seek to prepare agreed drafts for consideration by both Chairmen.

The Chairman suggested to get on with the other matters and invited ir. Mace to answer the questions raised by the Staff Side.

Mr. Mace said that five questions had been passed to him and presumably these were the ones. He was not aware of the background as he had been away from Hong Kong for some time but he would give the Staff Side straight answers. The first question was why 17 companies were chosen for comparison. It might be noted that 68 companies were supposed to be for comparisons for pay trends. 17 companies were arrived at because that was the number of companies where there were
