(ii) the maximum should be raised by one increment

to Point 12($1,405), having considered pay levels in the private sector;

in respect of promotion prospects,

(i) there should no longer be any direct

promotion prospects to the rank of Senior Typist as it is considered that there is no functional justification for retaining that rank. However, there will be opportunity for a Typist to be appointed as a Stenographer (see (ii) below) and thereafter to obtain entry to the new grade of Supervisor of Typing Services or Personal Secretary, if she acquires the necessary qualifications; (ii) Typists with at least three years' service

and a shorthand speed of 80 w.p.m. should be eligible for in-service appointment to Stenographer (see below) by competitive examination and interview;

in respect of incremental credit,

(i) one increment should be awarded, either on

entry or later, for Certificate of Education passes in the three specified subjects (see (b)(ii) above);

(ii) one increment should be awarded for passing

a typing speed test at 70 w.p.m. Speeds beyond 70 w.p.m. are difficult to attain and it is doubtful whether they would be retained in a pool environment.
