DESCRIPTION
TRADE SKILLS
Constructs, assembles, inspects and repairs boilers, tanks and articles of heavy steel sections above 10 s.w.g. (or 3.2 mm thick).
Ability to :-
1. Correctly use and maintain the tools of
the trade including power and machine tools.
2.
Use and care of the marking out instruments and undertake marking out according to standards and specifications.

TRADE THEORY
3.
Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
4. Carry out heat treatment of metals to give
required properties.
5. Prepare and fair steel plates, fabricate
and erect steelworks.
6. Perform simple electric and gas welding.
7. Construct and repair boilers and other
pressure vessels.
8.
Observe safety precautions and health
measures.
Knowledge of :-
1. Workshop technology including fabrication
processes, fitting, hand and machine tools and heat treatment.
2. Principles of steel structures in
connection with boiler and pressure vessel construction.
3. Engineering science and calculation.
