TRADE SKILLS
Makes sand moulds and cores for castings, constructs runners, risers and feeders, and uses various foundry equipment and machinery.
Ability to :-
1.
Correctly use and maintain the tools of the trade including moulding machines, hand and power hoists.
2. Prepare and mix various foundry sand to
give the required properties.
3.

Prepare, dry and bake all types of moulds and cores to meet the specified requirements.
Select and use moulding equipment, such as pins, clamps and weights.
5. Operate safely various types of melting
furnaces and foundry equipment.

TRADE THEORY

Take preventive and remedial measures against casting defects.
7.
Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
8. Observe safety precautions and health
measures.
Knowledge of:

Workshop technology including properties of materials, expansion and contraction of metals and alloys, tolerances and fits, surface finish.
Engineering science and calculation and estimation of casting volumes and weights from drawings.
