TRADE THEORY

Makes, services and repairs press and other tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges and dies, in accordance with designs, drawings and specifications.

Ability to :-

Use and take care of the tools of the trade including power and machine tools, e.g. jig borer, E.D.M., tool grinder.

2. Mark out and work to specified fits and

tolerances.

Use and take care of relevant measuring instruments, gauges and standards, e.g. comparator and hardness testing machines.

Heat treat metals to give required properties.

5. Identify common engineering materials and

select materials appropriate to a job.

6. Make, service and repair press tools,

cutting tools, cutters, jigs and fixtures, gauges and dies, feed and ejector mechanisms and machine guards.

7. Undertake simple tool and die design.

8. Read and interpret engineering drawings

and specifications.

9. Carry out all necessary safety precautions

in the works for which he is responsible.

Knowledge of :-

1. Workshop technology including fitting, tool geometry, hand and machine tools, heat treatment, engineering materials and measuring instruments and gauges.
