(TWS/CR/1030/77) 52 On 29th October, 1977, Customs and Excise Officers intercepted a Chinese male LAI Cheung- yick (7812/4382/5065) at the junction of Wan Chai Road and Johnston Road. 4.5 kilogrammes of No. 3 heroin were found in a paper carton he was carrying. LAI was arrested and charged with 'Posses- sion of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking'. Trial is pending. (CE/101/276/77) 53 On 3rd November, 1977, acting on information, Narcotics Bureau Officers raided Flat D, 13/F, 456 Building, 567 Nathan Road, Yau Ma Tei. One Chinese male CHENG Chiu-ming (6174/6389/2494) was arrested inside the premises when a quantity of what appeared to be No. 3 heroin was seized. Chemical analysis later revealed the drug to be 2.4765 kilogrammes of a salt of morphine. It is thought that CHENG was attempting to dilute heroin and it had reverted back to morphine during the process. CHENG was found guilty of 'Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking' and was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment.

54 On 6th December, 1977, after a long surveillance operation, Narcotics Bureau Officers stopped a private car in Chatham Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. They seized 2.269 kilogrammes of esters of morphine and arrested the car driver CHu Tim-loy (2612/3240/0171). Two passengers who had previously alighted from the car were also arrested. They were LAM Chor-hang (2651/2806/0615) and Li Kwo (2621/2654). All three have been charged jointly with 'Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking'. The case is pending trial in the Supreme Court.

(TST/CR/3421/77) 55 On 14th December, 1977, acting upon information, Narcotics Bureau Officers raided Flat 1524, 14/F, Yat King Lau, Lai King Tsuen, Kwai Chung. From the premises they seized 3.9319 kilogrammes of No. 3 heroin and 2.4 litres of acetic anhydride. A quantity of equipment normally associated with the manufacture of heroin was also seized. The occupant of the flat, Ku Yam-tong (7357/5593/2768), is wanted by Narcotics Bureau for questioning in connection with this case. (KWC/MRB/X25142/77)
