1. At your request I wrote to the Governor of Hong Kong asking him to send any Hong Kong Government papers which might have a bearing on the Nightingale case. In doing so I made it clear that the Secretary of State had been specifically asked to make these papers available by Mrs Barbara Castle who had herself been approached by the lawyers representing Miss Nightingale.
2. I attach a self-explanatory letter from the Secretary for Security in Hong Kong, together with its enclosures. I have no doubt that Hong Kong have in fact passed on all the relevant papers.
3. I understand that the Secretary of State will now be seeing Mrs Castle on 20 June. May I leave it to you to examine the various papers and make an appropriate submission? Hong Kong have done exactly as we asked and I should like to send Mr Davies a word of thanks after the Secretary of State has seen Mrs Castle. I should, therefore, be grateful if you would let me know the outcome of the meeting.
