1. I contacted Miss Barbara Middlemiss, Assistant Secretary, British Medical Association, and responsible for organising international conventions, regarding the clinical meeting to be held in Hong Kong in November 1979.
2.
Having first been briefed by Mr Roger Allen (FED), I out- lined the problems of inviting speakers from China if delegates would be present from Taiwan or South Korea. I explained that the Chinese are currently prepared to attend conferences where it is made clear that anyone from Taiwan or South Korea has been invited in an individual capacity and not as a represent- ative of his country.
3. Miss Middlemiss replied that she was aware of the problems and, indeed, the BMA had called a meeting for next Monday, 18 December, to discuss the Hong Kong conference and assess any political implications. She was grateful for our interest and would keep us informed of arrangements nearer the time.
4. Miss Middlemiss's telephone number is that of the BMA : 01-387-4499.
