Meanwhile, Jackie, who had been endowed with the gift of the Spirit through the laying on of hands by a Chinese couple, began to recognize the power of the Holy Spirit through talking with Rick and Jean, and became truly charismatic by praying reg- ularly in tongues (a language given by God when one receives the above mentioned gift of the Spirit). She began to reach people for Jesus. The "people" were Chinese criminals and heroin addicts residing in a no man's land in the middle of British Hong Kong known as "the Walled City" of Kowloon, which still technically belongs to Mainland China. They contrasted strangely with the English sons and daughters of expatriates meeting at the apartment of Rick and Jean and in those days communication between the two groups was poor.
Jackie, in an attempt to help the society drop- outs, leased a flat outside the Walled City and took some of those who had professed Christ to live with her. Her empathy with them was amazing but the experiment appeared not to be a success as she discovered it took more than affection and a decent place to live to change a heroin addict — a great deal more. They really were not like other people. But the experiment was valuable because of the know- ledge acquired for the future.

Meanwhile the group in Rick and Jean's flat had grown to two groups which included ministers, professors, priests, nuns, and even a Supreme Court Judge! By 1972 a number of people in Hong Kong and many more passing through had been converted and baptized with the Spirit hundreds in fact. Enough so that the newspapers picked up the story and itinerant preachers began to arrive, confusing the issue with varying doctrines. In 1973 the Soc- iety p shed a book Jean had written on the Willans' adventures entitled, The Acts of the Green Apples, later published in the U. S. A. by Whitaker House.
