Although the aim of the Auxiliary Force to assist the regular Force in maintaining law and order has not changed since its inception 20 years ago, the importance and value of its contribution has grown significantly over the last few years. Their contribution is greatly appreciated, not only by the regular Force, but also by the community.
Police Band
The Police Band, based at the Police Training School, and
or even private nature, with fees being paid to the Force Welfare Fund. In all, it completed more than 530 engage- ments during the year.
In September, the band paid an official visit to Western Australia. The tour was sponsored by the Perth Building Society and Cathay Pacific Airlines. In all, 21 performances were staged in and around Perth with receptive audiences totalling 400,000.
In 1978 the band is scheduled to visit the United King- dom for three months where they will participate in the Royal Tournament, London and the Edinburgh Tattoo in Scotland.
The band is staffed by selected volunteers from the Rank and File. Training is provided locally by the Director of

The police band went Down Under during 1977 – to the delight of thousands of music lovers in Perth, Western Australia's
capital city.
under the baton of a civilian Director of Music, participated in almost all major ceremonial occasions of the Force and many other official functions organised or sponsored by Government.
In November the band took part in the Jubilee Pageant presentation, and throughout the year their services were in great demand by voluntary and welfare agencies.
The band, on request and when official commitments permitted, also played at social functions of a semi-official
Music and the Bandmaster (an Inspector). But, where necessary and financially feasible, members were sent overseas for advanced training. One member of the Band recently returned from Kneller Hall Military School of Music in the United Kingdom where he was awarded the prize for best overseas pupil on the course.
At the end of the year the strength of the band stood at 102, all ranks.
