ARMY CAREER

Joined Army (Infantry) and Commissioned 1941. 26 years Command (Line Mgt) and Administration: 20 years (15 on active service) with Gurkhas in Far East: 3 years as Battalion Commander (1,000 men): 3 years as Brigade Commander (Chief Executive) in Hong Kong (5,000 men). 9 years Staff: 3 years Instructor and Chief Instructor (Training Manager) at Royal Military Academy (RMA): 2 years Gurkha Brigade Colonel (Personnel Director): 4 years total Defence Adviser (Sales and PR) in Nepal and Malaysia. Left Army Nov 76 (35 years) in rank of Brigadier (OBE, MC).

EXPERIENCE

General: wide experience to top level of decision making policy and plans, written and

verbal communication, coordination and control to implement plans, leadership. Command: total responsibility for from 100 to 1,000 men (6 sub-units) with wide scope

for discretion.

Chief Executive: in overall charge of the New Territories (Hong Kong). Joint Chairman

Tripartite Conference with District Commissioner and Chief of Police. Command and control of 5 major units and 3,000 civilians with joint responsibility for enforcing emergency legislation affecting the civil population.

As Defence Adviser to HM Ambassador in Nepal and High Commissioner in Malaysia

duties included Defence Sales, Intelligence, Liaison with governments and foreign diplomats.

21 years covering whole range of basic Personnel Administration and welfare, Accounts,

and care and maintenance of equipment and stores worth several million pounds. Motor transport: control of fleet of 70 vehicles (2 years).

Personnel Director: for 2 years responsible for all aspects of personnel policy and man-

power planning affecting 10,000 Gurkha servicemen, 3,000 civilians and 5,000 families, including problems associated with run-down of Singapore Base.

Committee work (7 years): first as Secretary and later as Chairman: experienced in

producing agendas and minutes.

Continuous tactical and administrative training over 13 years.

Training Manager: 3 years as Instructor and Chief Instructor at RMA (cadets age 18-20)

included planning and preparation of programmes, lecturing and instructional techniques.

In Nepal (1966-68) was able to assist Sir Edmund Hillary with his Sherpa projects (hospitals,

schools and bridges).
