to know of the existence of this stall and some 280 of them used to call in about once a week to receive their pay-off. The senior officer recommended for dismissal for this corrupt offence is a Chinese Inspector. It is inconceivable that at the very least a high proportion of the more senior officers, Chinese and expatriate, were not either cognizant of or engaged in this miasma of corruption. I realize that as a rule Inspectors and Superintendents do not receive their squeeze direct from the drug peddlers, and that it is conveyed to them through the sergeants. One can only hope that if a successful prosecution is brought off against at least a number of those in Group 1, they in turn will squeal and implicate some more senior officers.
