in this prison claimed a frame-up. He had spent $8000
on lawyers and needed $4000 for appeal.
Others in this prison said they were on trafid charges but were not active traids.
5) In Stanley Prison, the following complained they were not guilty but had
been framed or wrongly charged:
(a) 26666 19065 26775 14146 all involved in the Cactus Murder case.
Reading the lengthy record, one gets the impression that too much weight was placed on tainted witnesses and there could have been mistakes. However, I know some fo the gangsters concerned, and they had done many other violent things and are not the subject of much sympality, except that they also have the right to justice. The case was weakened by the fact that, police accomplices got off. (This gang had connections with
set, the detective who shot careless driving, the only
a man dead for complaining about convicted murder out on bail, to the disgust of the public and the shame of the courts.)
(b) 17493 says his whole case was based on fingerprints.
(c) 25968 claims his was a frame-up.
(d) 25929 claims he was innocent of the murder charge.

(e) 27647 claims that the witness against him had a grudge, but he admits
to manslaughter.
(f) 17768 says the dead person was killed in a straight gang fight, and
that the charge should have been manslaughter.
(g) 23656 says he did not have the drugs with which he was charged.
6) Chi Ma Wan Prison The same claim was made by many, as in Ma Po Ping,
that after a conviction for possession because of drug addiction and not for trafficking, the police charged them with anything they liked. A common frame-up was trafficking drugs put on a person known to be or to have been an addict.
(a) 17534 claims he was framed.
(b) 27456 says he did not know the goods were stolen when charged with
receiving stolen goods. Paid lawyer $8000. Appeal will cost further $6000.
(c) 27098 claims he possessed no d.d. but was so charged.
(d) 27835 claims frame-up- Fire Services Case being considered by
H.E. Governor.
7) Pik Uk Correctional Centre
(a) YP 37029 says first time he was guilty, but this time framed.
(b) YDR 12726 claims he only reported robbery in his factory and was
charged with being "inside man". Says this is because he was once on a traid charge.
