Generally, I agree with his remarks. I am confident that the
Chief Justice also will. The one encouraging aspect is that some young local people now joining the profession appear to have a more developed social conscience. There is no doubt that the proposed free legal advice scheme and the duty-lawyer scheme will be tests of the readiness of the profession to respond to social demands. So far, the profession has in general been indifferent.
