Wear dolceway,
Thank you for your letter of 19th May 1978, with the enclosure.
How Mrs. Elliott obtained her "own observations of the working of the Umelco Group" I do not know as I cannot recall her having been present at any of our meetings.
Also the re-opened case was quashed because it was held that the Magistrate misdirected himself and not because of a frame up or of wrong or misleading information.
The comment in the penultimate paragraph of the article is entirely negative and could be used as a reason for doing nothing in many fields of endeavour.
However leaving aside the nit-picking my more formal comment is that the Umelco Group has always been fully conscious of the possibility of being misled by the Police and it is for that reason that we introduced the system of spot checks of cases and directly contacting complainants and witnesses. I think this will become clear from our report for the period ended 30th April 1978, which I hope to have in your hands by the end of this month. Perhaps you would prefer to defer your reply to Mrs. Elliott until such time as you have had an opportunity of perusing that report.
sincerity
