2. ir Liu, a civil servant who had been working with the Hong Kong Police Force for about a month, was found dead on the pavement outside a building near his home on 26 July 1977. The inquest produced an open verdict, although the police. are reported to have believed the death to have been suicide.

Since the death there has been considerable pressure for a further investigation. A special squad of the Hong Kong Police has now been set up to look into the case and its report is expected later this month.
