the Mass Transit Railway Admiralty Station which was to
be linked to the building by a pedestrian bridge across
Que ensway.
(iii) Institutional and Community Uses
4.
The existing club house, swimming pool, dental
and medical clinics at the eastern end of the planning
area were zoned for institutional and community use
with the intention that these facilities should be put
to suitable interim uses pending any more intensive
redevelopment for community purposes.
(iv) Commercial Use
5.
It was felt that commercial
zoning along
the Queensway frontage would provide a better environ-
ment than a mixed commercial/residential zoning and
would also be compatible with the zoning of the Mass
Transit Railway Admiralty Station area to the north.
(v) Retention of Existing Buildings
6.
Flagstaff House was to be retained as a
specialised museum, with nearby Rawlinson House being
used as tearooms. Wavell House was thought to afford
suitable office accommodation for the park management
until design of the new Government Secretariat had been
completed and the building's future could be re-examined.
