SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS
(i) Open Space
The Committee's plan provided for about 80% of
the planning area to be zoned for use as open space, with
site reservations for future Government buildings
adjusted to enable visual and physical links to be
created between the open spaces in the south-western
and eastern parts of the area.

Government Buildings

A new Supreme Court building and a prestigious
new Government Secretariat building were to be sited in
the western section in an area where cultural and
historical interest were provided by existing buildings
such as Flagstaff House, Rawlinson House, and, possibly,
a resited Murray House complemented by environmental
amenities and the attractive garden of Flagstaff House.
The grounds surrounding the future Government building
were to be made an integral part of the public open
space and enhance the general effect of a pleasing park-
like setting for the building.

The new Supreme Court building was sited on
the Queensway frontage to provide convenient vehicul ar
access and to facilitate members of the public using
