ANNEX 11

ALTERNATIVE USE OF FLAGSTAFF HOUSE

Altogether eleven alternative uses for

Flagstaff House were considered by the Committee.

A summary of the alternative uses proposed and of

the reasons for the Committee's final decision

is set out below :

(i) A Marriage Registry

(ii)

Although this proposal was an

attempt to improve upon the cramped

conditions in the City Hall, it

represented a relatively limited

use as far as the general public

was concerned.

Furthermore, the

conversion of the building to

official use could detract from

its architectural appeal.

A Library for the Supreme Court

The Committee was advised by the

Government Maintenance Surveyor that

the existing floors are totally

inadequate for use as a library

and any form of reinforcement or

renewal of the ground and first

/floors
