provided with classrooms, seminar

rooms, a lecture hall, a library,

offices, living quarters and modern

toilet facilities. This building

is suitable as accommodation for a

number of professional societies

and voluntary institutions and the

Committee recommends its retention

for institution and community uses

within an open space zone.

Murray House

Murray House is situated outside the

Victoria Barracks and it is, therefore, outside

the purview of the Committee. However, as it

is the contemporary and immediate neighbour

of Flagstaff House and a building of con-

siderable architectural merit and historical

interest to Hong Kong, the Committee suggests

that should it be decided to re-erect Murray

House on a new site, the site of the existing

Victoria Infants' School at the western end

of the Victoria Barracks would be a suitable

location for this historic building which

would complement Flagstaff House, Rawlinson

House and the future prestigious Government

/Secretariat
